Grape Harvest at Quinta das Vinhas within the isUP-AgrO Project

The grape harvest at Quinta das Vinhas, in Estreito da Calheta, took place on 26 August 2026, as part of the research activities carried out within the European isUP-AgrO project.

As a project partner, Quinta das Vinhas is one of the pilot vineyards selected in the Autonomous Region of Madeira to host the trials developed under Work Package 6 (WP6), which focuses on investigating more efficient and sustainable management strategies for viticulture.

The trials conducted at the pilot vineyards compare traditional farmer irrigation with precision irrigation strategies, enabling researchers to assess their effects on vine development, plant water status, productivity and grape quality. In parallel, soil and climatic conditions are monitored, while interactions between plants and soil microbial communities are investigated.

The grape harvest therefore represents an important stage of the research activities carried out under WP6, providing valuable production data and samples for the assessment of vineyard productivity and grape quality. These results will subsequently be related to environmental conditions and irrigation treatments, contributing to a more integrated understanding of vineyard performance.

The work carried out at Quinta das Vinhas supports the testing and validation of innovative solutions under real production conditions, strengthening the link between research, innovation and agricultural practice. Data collected throughout the production cycles will contribute to a better understanding of vine responses to environmental conditions and support the development of irrigation strategies better adapted to crop needs.

Through these activities, the isUP-AgrO project aims to contribute to a more water-efficient, sustainable and resilient viticultural sector, generating knowledge and innovative solutions with potential for application in Madeira’s wine sector.
