Staff Exchange: Smart crops irrigation technologies and strategies

Between June 23 to July 4, 2025, researchers Humberto Nóbrega and Nuno Nunes from ISOPlexis - Center for Biological Agriculture and Food Technology of the University of Madeira participated in the staff exchange at IRNAS-CSIC in Seville for task 3.3: Smart crops irrigation technologies and strategies of isUP-AgrO project.

The primary objective of this exchange was to gain hands-on experience with innovative approaches and techniques related to smart irrigation strategies and crop monitoring. Given the growing impact of climate change on daily life, adopting new methods for managing water resources in agricultural systems had become increasingly crucial — even in the Madeira Region. The exchange program was designed to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and best practices, promote learning through shared experiences, and support the development of practical, applicable skills.

This initiative is part of the isUP-AgrO project, which aims to strengthen ISOPlexis as a European reference in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Technology, involving international collaboration with UNIPR (Italy), IRNAS (Spain), and Saturntech (Portugal), and coordinated by the University of Madeira (Portugal).
